Tutorial: Soft Yet Dramatic with the Naked 2

I recently landed a job at my local Sephora & I waned to have more of the makeup they carried, so I bought the Urban Decay Naked 2. Since this is a pretty popular palette I plan on doing a few tutorials with it soon.

Prime your lids! 

Apply Pistol (light grayish-brown shimmer) all over the lid. I use a Mac 242 for this step.

Apply your base shadow (matte, and close to your skintone). I am using MAC Blanc Type (matte, cream). Apply it from the crease to the brow. I use a Sigma E60 for this step.

Apply Tease (matte cream, pale cool-brown) from the crease to the brow bone and then blend it out. I use a Sigma E45 to apply and a MAC 217 to blend.

Apply Busted (deep cool-brown, shimmer) into the crease and upwards. I use a Sigma E45.

Blend it out! I use a MAC 217.

Apply Blackout (matte, black) to the outer V. I use a Sigma E30 for this.

Blend the edges only to keep the black deep and the elongated shape.

Add Verve to the inner corner and blend upwards. I use a Sigma E45 for this.

Run Pistol under the lash line. I use a Sigma E30.

Add some Blackout to the outer quarter to help elongate the eye even more. I use a Sigma E30 again.

Blend the two shades together.

Add Verve to the inner third of the lower lash line. I use, surprise surprise, a Sigma E30.

Optional: Add some winged liner. You can also just run a dark shadow or kohl liner and smudge it out along the lash line, that'd be just as lovely.

Curl your lashes and add some mascara! 

I also tight lined with a black liner and lined my waterline with a nude liner and added lashes.

I paired this look with a cool, soft pink lip and cheek.

Tutorial: Purple Eyes + Face Makeup

This is a pretty easy look for eyes & I added how I finished my face makeup, as well. Hope you like it! If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below. Also, please let me know if you like the dots!

Prime your eyes. I already have my foundation on and I've done my eyebrows, but I haven't powdered or concealed since I will get fallout from some of the pigments I am using later.

Use a cream shadow on the lid so the loose pigments will stick better. I am using NARS Soft Touch Pencil in Goddess.

Tip! If you want less fallout on your face, you can hold a tissue under your eye while you apply loose pigments.

Using a MAC 242, I apply Shiro Mother of Dragons all over my lid and into the crease. 

Then, using a Sigma E65 I apply Mac Blanc Type. You can use any color that is close to your skintone in a matte.

Next, I apply MAC Wedge using a Sigma E40 from my crease to half way up my brow.

Using a Sigma E45 I apply Urban Decay Rockstar in the outer V, taking up about a quarter of the lid.

Using a Sigma E30 I apply Stila Dahlia in the outer V, but more defined than with Rockstar.

Blend the edged.

Using Simga E30 I put Shiro Mother of Dragons under the lower lash line.

I also applied corrector and concealer at this point.

Tight line with a black pencil and line your water line with a nude.

You can add some winged liner if you'd like. This look is also pretty without liner, but I am going to be wearing false lashes so I'll add liner.

Curl your lashes and add some mascara.

Finishing the Face

 Powder your face. I use RCMA No Color and Ben Nye Cameo. I use a sponge and press and roll the powder on to my skin to set my base.

Here, I am using Hourglass Ambient Light Powder in Diffused to brighten the center of my face. I use a Sigma F35.

I am using an Sigma F50, making small circles to apply and blend Benefit Rockateur blush.

This is where I apply blush.

A quick contour with MAC Sculpt and A Simga F05.

As you can see here, even just a little bit of contouring makes a big difference. 

Using MAC Emphasize and a Sigmga F35, I am highlighting my cheek bones, inner corner of my eyes, brow bone and cupids bow.

Wipe off any foundation or lip gloss you may have left on your lips. I had Smith's Rosebud Salve on my lips while I was applying makeup, but I don't really want to apply my lipstick over it so I always remove it before going on.

Here, I've using MAC Prep and Prime and then Applied MAC Brave.

 

 I added a bit of a Stila gloss and just dabbed it in the center of my lips.

And that's the finished look! In these following pictures I also added Oh my Lash! The Knockout Lashes.

Back to Basics: Individual Lash Flairs

Here I will show you how I apply individual lash flairs. I am going to be using Ardell Knot-Free lash flairs in short, medium and long.

I like the way individual lashes look, since they give very different effects depending on how you place them. I'll have some examples at the end of this post. 

I am going to be placing four longs, two mediums and three smalls, going from longest to the shortest starting on the outside of my eye. This will give an elongated eye shape. However, you can always mix things up like using just one size for extra volume. Or using a short-medium-long-medium-short pattern, with the longest at the center of your eye gives a more opened look. Lots of options with the flairs.

I am using my clean hand as a palette, if I am working on a client I use a stainless steel palette. I like to take the eyelashes out of the packaging first, since I find that I'm less likely to break them and it goes a bit faster. I place a tiny bit of the lash glue on my hand, since you only need about a pin head sized amount.

 I am going to apply these without any liner on. Placing the lash flairs along at least a thin application of liner does disguise where the lashes are placed, but since I wanted you to be able to see where I placed them, I opted for no liner. Make sure to curl you lashes lightly first and apply mascara. 

 I use a tweezers to carefully pick up the lashes. Grab close to the base so you have more control. Then dip the very tip into the glue. I like to place them pretty wet, but if you're having trouble, try letting the glue get more tacky by waiting about 15-25 seconds.

Carefully place the flair (long) as close to your lash line as you can. Looking down will really help when placing the lash.

Repeating the steps above, place the next lash (long) close to the first lash you placed, but not too close so that the ends of the lashes look too close together.

Sometimes the lashes don't sit close enough or are slightly rotated so I use the back of the tweezers to push them down into place.

Here I've applied four long flairs and two mediums.

When I start applying towards the inner part of my eye I find it easier to reach across my face/nose to apply the rest of the lashes. This helps me not to bump the lashes I've already placed and I can see what I am doing better.

Here I am placing another small flair.

As you cans see, I placed the lash flair in the innermost corner too low. I can easily pluck it off and reposition, since the glue is still pretty wet.

After applying all the lash flairs I look directly into the mirror to see if there are any areas where I'd like to add a bit more to & to check if there are any blank spaces.

I am placing one more small flair where I feel like there's a gap.

Here are the finished lashes.

I am using an angled brush (sigma E65) with some black gel liner (Mac Fluid line in Backtrack) to cover the glue.

Then I wipe off the excess mascara off my wand and press it into my real lashes and the false ones to blend.

And that's how you put on individual lash flairs!

I have hooded eyes and I lose even more lid space when I smile. As you can see here, wearing lashes really helps in adding extra definition to my eyes.

I think these look better with a thin liner, however I wanted to be able to show the placement of the lashes better.
